Keeper Security company has published a ranking of the world’s most commonly used passwords. Unfortunately, as every year, the same easily cracked character combinations are holding top places.

It may seem unlikely to many of us but the “123456” combination is on top once again. Subsequent entries only confirm that many Internet users do not realise that you do not need a special program to crack such simple passwords. Passwords which contain 4 or 6 characters can be broken in a few seconds by a specialist.

Here is the complete list of the most commonly used passwords in the world. Better avoid using these for your own good.

1. 123456

2. 123456789

Some of the passwords are not on the list but can be broken quite easily nonetheless. Popular passwords are:

  • name and surname,
  • Your birthdate,
  • a combination of the above,
  • name or names of your children or pets,
  • words found in the dictionary.

Another risk is to have a single password to all possible accounts. A hacker who managed to steal our password can use it e.g. to enter our bank profile.

The recipe for a strong password that is not easily broken is simple. It should contain: uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and special characters. It is also a good solution to regularly change passwords. It’s good to do it today.
